GABRIELA RENI

she/her

Garden Development Build Coordinator

Gabi is a multi-talented journalist, photographer, construction worker and most importantly, a gardener. Passionate about building and maintaining vegetable and succulent gardens back in the Bay Area in California since 2015, she completed the Fruit and Vegetable Crop Management Certificate Program at Michigan State University to further her knowledge about farming and apply it and contribute to the urban farming network in Detroit. Being a member of the Garden Resource Program at KGD, she has cultivated her backyard garden since 2021, and she has progressively expanded it to include native fruit trees and perennials inspired by permaculture techniques and habitat conservation values. She has also worked at indoor and outdoor farms with different growing systems in place. Her dream is to have a sustainable, organic permaculture farm within the city of Detroit that will be a hub for health and creativity for the community, merging food and art.

If she is not at the farm or assisting gardeners and building community gardens out in the city, you can find her tending to her garden, working in her house, reading, doing street photography, at music shows or dancing. She loves socializing and getting to know new people.

Having grown up in Caracas, Venezuela, and living and traveling in different places around the world, Gabi decided to set roots in her favorite city, Detroit, ultimately understanding the importance of finding and experiencing a sense of community and having an altruistic purpose wherever we call home.
